How to select a suitable metal working cnc lathe machine?

Table of Contents

Customers often get confused when choosing a CNC lathe. Today, we will discuss the key factors to pay attention to when choosing a CNC lathe.

First, we have to consider the structure of the bed.

Lathe beds are divided into heavy-duty and light-duty machines, which are mainly selected based on individual processing needs. Generally speaking, heavy-duty lathes have better stability but are relatively more expensive.

Second, the type and specification of the rails are also important considerations.

Different models of guide rails have different widths, and the same models are also available in heavy-duty and light-duty versions. Usually, guide rails are quenched to improve their wear resistance and rigidity.

Third, the head box is also an important part of the CNC lathe.

The head box is divided into two types: single shaft and gear. The gear head box has a large torque and is suitable for rough machining and large feed amounts. The single-axis head box has less noise and high rotation speed, and is suitable for finishing machining that requires high smoothness. If you need higher finish requirements, you can consider a single-axis head box equipped with a servo main motor.

Fourth, choose the suitable working range .

according to the size of the workpiece, select the appropriate rotation diameter on the bed, the diameter of the spindle hole, and the maximum processing length, and whether a slant bed CNC lathe is needed.

Fifth, the CNC system is the core of the CNC lathe, and its selection is crucial.

Common CNC systems include Guangshu system, Siemens system, FANUC system, etc. When choosing a CNC system, you should choose it based on your processing needs. A lower version of the CNC system can be used for rough machining, while a higher version of the CNC system should be used for processing with higher requirements such as finishing, thread processing, and taper processing. Please note that higher version systems usually cost more.

Sixth, the selection of chuck, tool holder and tailstock also requires careful consideration.

The chuck generally uses a manual chuck, and the corresponding chuck type can be selected according to different models, such as hydraulic chuck, pneumatic chuck or electric chuck, depending on individual processing needs. The tool holder usually uses a four-station electric tool turret, but there are also six-station or eight-station electric tool turrets available. In addition, pneumatic tool holders and small CNC lathes can optionally use row tool holders. In terms of tailstock, manual tailstock is a common choice, but depending on actual needs, hydraulic tailstock and pneumatic tailstock are also feasible options.
